Im constantly asked why of all things would I decide to enter into the cigar industry. I get told “no one smokes cigars” or “cigars are for old people”.
Luckily neither of these statements are true. Over the last three years we have built a great community of cigar enthusiasts around our small Essex based shop, but also on the road at events.
When I first got into cigars we didn’t have a local shop we could go and ask questions and when we did find a shop the sales were unenthusiastic, and buying online was difficult as you were swarmed with tons of option but no guidance.
So I decided to try to fill the void for our local area. Ensuring customers got the right help with no pomp and ceremony just shared passion for an ancient past time.
The satisfaction of being able to help guide people to find exciting cigars and hidden gems, whether that’s from the depths of the Hunter and Frankau catalog or the from new worlds brands that are trying to do something different in a very traditional industry is our main focus.
Anyone who has dealt with me knows I won’t try to sell you cigars for the sake of it, ill tell you if I think a cigar is shit (sorry Montecristo) and I won’t push you to the most expensive cigar if I think a cheaper stick will give you the better experience.
We have had some great reactions to people trying the Pro Larranaga Montecarlo or the El Septimo Emperor Augustus. But we also had to learn that we can sometimes get a little too adventurous and have to reign ourselves back in.
I got very excited by The Cuaba Tradicionales and was very keen for people to share the same experience but completely missing the fact that this unique shape would be so different for newer smokers that it didn’t always work for everyone.
And that’s why we sell cigars, because no matter how much you think you know there’s always more to learn, and so many cool people to learn with.
As 2024 ends and we finalise our plan for 2025 I couldn’t be more excited to continue to build this great community of passionate cigar smokers. But as we continue to grow our core mission will stay the same-
Cut out the bullshit, sell great cigars.
Roll on 2025
Much appreciated
Jamie
